graduated from Tbilisi Art Academy in 1956. Main field of his activity is monumental sculpture. His works such as Shota Rustaveli, Davit Guramishvili, Giorgi Saakadze, Medea, Muse, And They Shall Grow, Lao King Monument, King David Agmashenebeli, Kote Marjanishvili, Memorial to the Heroes etc. are commonly known and famous. Merab berdzenishvili created interesting artistic stage costumes for Kutaisi Song and Dance State Ensemble directed by Jemal Chkuaseli. The costumes were distinguished with ethnographic precision, color gamma and were maximally approximated to historical clothing. Following Jemal Chkuaseli’s transfer to Georgian State National Singing and Dancing Academic Ensemble Erisioni Merab Berdzenishvili, who already had significant experience in working on onstage costumes, created splendid and genuinely Georgian costumes. The concept of costume drawings was based on church frescos and historical documents complying with all the nuances and character of each Georgian region. He personally supervised the tailors so as to exclude even a minor discrepancy with the drawings. As a result, we had unique costumes the artistic value of which was commonly acknowledged by Georgian as well as foreign specialists and spectators. The stage was a true firework of colors -well combining with the artistic lighting of Erisioni show-programs. Erisioni is proud to be performing all over the world in onstage costumes of the famous sculptor and artist. Along with Erisioni, the spectators applaud to Merab Berdzenishvili as well.
